Located in northeastern part of Wuchang District, Shahu Lake borders Zhongbei Road in the east, Xiaoguishan (little Tortoise Hill) in the south, Wuchang-Daye railway in the west and Xudong Road in the north.
The Guangzhou-Wuhan railway, which was constructed in late Qing Dynasty, travels across the lake and divides it into two parts, namely the inner Shahu Lake (0.134 square km) and outer Shahu Lake (3.197 square km).
It is the second largest urban lake in Wuhan, and is also the only lake within Wuhan’s inner ring road. Two parks have been constructed along the lake, and the lake is also near Hubei University.(hubei.gov.cn by Mao Huifang)
