Ningpo Commercial & Savings Bank (NCSB) was designed in 1934 by Lu Yongbiao from Hemmings & Berkley Co. The whole structure is in modernist style, containing elements of Art Deco.
This building, 39.01 meters in height, was designed with five floors above the ground and one floor beneath, plus a two-story tower in the middle of the roof. As an example of early modernist architecture, simple and neat, it was decorated for the most part in vertical lines for visual effect, which was all the rage in Hankou at the time. As the third-best in Wuhan, after Hankou Customs House and Hankou Water Tower, it was the first building in the city designed by a Chinese architect, constructed in reinforced concrete at the borderland of the British concession.
After two renovations in 2000 and 2015, it now serves as a fashion retail store open to the public. Two significant bronze doors in Art Deco style characterize the whole building.
