The reputable new Hubei Provincial Library was officially opened to the public on December 8, 2012.
Situated on the south of Shahu Lake in Wuchang Distrct of Wuhan, capital city of central China’s Hubei Province. The new Hubei Provincial Library covers an aera of 100.5 acres, with a total provincial finance investment of 780 million yuan (about 127.4 U.S.dollars). The main building contains eight over-ground floors and two underground floors. It is one of the largest cultural infrastructures in Hubei since 1949, as well as the provincial library with the largest single building area in China.
The new library is featured with the integrated general layout of “collect, borrow, read, and consult” and the epoch character of “study & reaserch”, “information exchange”, and “culture & leisure”. The overall design is an integration of the nature. The main body embodies the idea of “dancing crane flying in the sea of wisdom”. The cloud decoration on the building also reflects with the waves of the Shahu Lake.(hubei.gov.cn by Mao Huifang)
