The newly built school gate of China University of Geosciences' (CUG) Wuhan campus has gone viral because it resembles a smiling face.

Dubbed "the gate of hehe (an onomatopoetic word one makes when laughing)", the structure consists of two flower beds (which make up the eyes) and an arching wall (which makes up the mouth of the smiley face).

In 2000, the management of CUG was transferred from Ministry of State Land and Resources to the Ministry of Education. Now, CUG is an institution of higher learning directly under the Ministry of Education.

In the past over 50 years, more than 80,000 students have graduated from China University of Geosciences. Among them 16 become members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and 5 members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Lots of excellent graduates play active roles as major leaders of the Party and Government.
