2019 Wuhan Open wraps up

The 2019 Wuhan Open, the WTA Premier 5 event,closed on September 28 in Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province.

Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus made history as the first player to ever defend her crown, powering to a 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 victory over American Alison Riske.

With the win, Sabalenka matches the record of Petra Kvitova as a two-time champion in Wuhan. Kvitova has two non-consecutive titles to her name, in 2014 and 2016.

Duan Yingying became the first Chinese winner of the Wuhan Open, as she and partner Veronika Kudermetova downed Aryna Sabalenka and Elise Mertens 7-6(3), 6-2 in the doubles final.

“This year's event was recognized by WTA and attracted more attention from the public and tennis fans. To develop the "Sports-Plus" model and the tennis industry chain is our new goal over the next five years," said Li Quiping, co-tournament director of Wuhan Open.(hubei.gov.cn by Zhang Yawei)
