On June 21, the First Forum on China Pilot Free Trade Zone Development, jointly organized by Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation and the Department of Commerce of Hubei Province, was officially convened in Wuhan, capital city of central China’s Hubei Province.
 
More than 400 guests from home and abroad gathered together to explore how to push forward the quality development of China Pilot Free Trade Zone, under the theme of ‘Achieving New Height for Reform and Opening-up in the New Era.’
 
Qin Jun, Director-General of the Department of Commerce of Hubei Province and Director of the Office of China (Hubei) Pilot Free Trade Zone (hereafter referred to as ‘Hubei FTZ’), said at the forum that the construction of China Pilot Free Trade Zone has entered its sixth year since the first established in Shanghai in September 2013. As a test field for reform, Hubei FTZ, which was unveiled on April 1, 2017, has initially achieved over 300 institutional innovations, nine of which were promoted at the national level and 86 were replicated across the province.
 
He further introduced that in Hubei FTZ, new formats such as live webcast, online education, and artificial intelligence are gearing up to really grow, and key industries concerning chip, new display, intelligent terminal and internet are rapidly emerging.
 
Since its establishment, Hubei FTZ has actually utilized foreign capital 3.17 billion U.S. dollars and reached import-export volume of 215.9 billion yuan, accounting for 10 percent of the province’s actual use of foreign capital and nearly one-third of the province’s imports and exports. It has become a highland for opening up in Hubei, he added.
 
In addition, board member and chief legal officer of the Colon Free Trade Zone of Panama Villarreal Hernández Jainer Alex , vice president of Jafza Ayoub Hassan Abdulrahim AI Mulla, Commercial Counsellor at the Royal Danish Embassy in Beijing Lars Eskild Jensen and other foreign representatives shared their experience in building free trade zone at the forum.
 
According to organizing committee, the projects signed at the forum will bring in nearly 30 billion yuan. 24 projects, covering government investment, enterprise investment and major infrastructure, will be laid out in Wuhan, Xiangyang and Yichang areas of Hubei FTZ. These projects are expected to be developed into an important force to promote industrial upgrading, gather development momentum, enhance people's lives, and accelerate the construction of Hubei FTZ in the future.
