The ‘Belt and Road’ and Philately· China 2019 Philatelic Forum was opened on June 12, as a sub event of the ongoing 2019 World Stamp Exhibition in Wuhan, capital city of central Chian’s Hubei Province. Several delicate sets of stamps on the Silk Road were presented.
Ten assessors, scholars and officials from the Universal Postal Union, World Philatelic Development Association, Asia Pacific Postal Union, Royal Mail Society, National Post Office, All-China Philatelic Federation, and China Post Group delivered keynote speeches at the forum.
The postal service has a profound history with the ‘Belt and Road’ culture and witnessed the prosperity of the ancient Silk Road. As early as 2,000 years ago, the Chinese Han Dynasty set up a courier station on the ancient Silk Road, which is equivalent to the modern post office, specializing in the transmission of official documents, mail, reception of past officials, envoys, military, etc., connecting the Central Plains and the Western countries.
The Silk Road themed stamps issued in China have featured fusion of cultures, trade, transport and infrastructures as well as the Chinese nation’s contribution to this ancient road. In 2017, China issued commemorative stamp on the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, and personalized stamps on the ‘Belt and Road’. During the World Stamp Exhibition in Wuhan, the stamps illustrating ‘China-Europe Railway Express (Yiwu -Madrid) ’were jointly launched by China Post and Correos. (hubei.gov.cn by Ruan Xinqi)
