21 competition venues of the 7th Military World Games to be completed in Wuhan in 2018

The 7th Military World Games(MWG) will be held in Wuhan, capital city of central China’s Hubei Province, from October 18th to 27th, 2019. This is the first time for China to undertake such a comprehensive international military sports event.

It was reported that 21 competition venues will be completed by the end of this year. Six projects including the media center of MWG and the athletes' village will be completed by April in 2019.

The venues listed below are some representatives under construction. Let’s have a look at their project progress.

The main stadium for MWG at Wuhan Sports Center

TheWuhan Sports Centerin Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone, built in 2002,can accommodate 60,000 people. The center is the main venue of MWG, taking on the opening ceremony as well as track and field events. The renovation was carried out in accordance with the standards of the Beijing Bird's Nest.

The athletes' village

The athletes' village of MWG, situated by the Huangjia Lake, Jiangxia District, covers a total construction area of 319,000 square meters, including two functional areas, namely, the residential areas and supporting areas. Each apartment accommodates 4 to 7 people with barrier-free design, occupying a per capita living area of 21 square meters.

The shooting range

The shooting range of MWG is located in National Defense Park in Zhashan Street of Caidian District. It covers an area of 373 mu and a total construction area of about 52,000 square meters, including 10 meters / 25 meters / 50 meters air rifle shooting hall, flying saucer shooting court, 300meters air rifle shooting range, athletes and media centers, ammunition depot, etc.

The Wuhan University Gymnasium

The Wuhan University Gymnasium under construction will be the badminton competition venue of MWG. With the main building capped, the competition venue is like a spreading-down book viewed from above. The project applies the "smartest skylight", which is placed in the middle of the roof and automatically closes when it rains or winds exceed the set wind speed. This skylight can achieve the "natural chimney effect.

The equestrian competition stadium 

The equestrian competition stadium of MWG, located in Wuhan Business University, covers an area of 208 mu. The ground is paved with the geotextile and fibers imported from the Netherlands mixed in proportion with quartz sand. When the horses step on, the depth of the horseshoe must be between 10 mm and 40 mm. 

Dongxihu Sports Center

The stadium, gymnasium and swimming pool at Dongxihu Sports Center are under full construction. And the construction-completed gymnasium and swimming pool have been completed are under renovation. The stadium roof system is a spoke cable-supported structure, which is first applied in Central China. The project of stadium is estimated to be completed in March, 2019.(hubei.gov.cn by Zhang Yawei)
