The China Southern Airlines is to open a direct air line linking Wuhan and London on May 30, 2018. It is the first intercontinental air service after the Terminal 3 of Wuhan Tianhe Airport being operational.

The Wuhan-London flights, undertaken by aircraft A330-200, are scheduled to serve on each Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

According to planning, China Southern Airlines is about to launch other intercontinental services from Wuhan to Osaka on March 28, to Ho Chi Minh City and Phuket in May.

By then, the airline company is expected to boast 14 international and regional air lines in Wuhan, up to 126 flights per week.

Aiming at central China’s air hub, Wuhan Tianhe International Airport saw a boom in international and regional air lines, multiplying from 11 to 58 since 2012. The non-stop services first covered Japan, South Kerea and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, then extended geographic reach into four continents as Europe, the United States, Australia and Asia. The airport handled over 2 million international and regional passengers annually, having ranked top in central China for years.
