Wuhan Peking Opera Troupe debuts at the Edinburgh International Festival

On August 10, the Wuhan Peking Opera Troupe left for the 2017 Edinburgh International Festival in Scotland, marking its debut at such a major art festival in the world.

The Edinburgh International Festival, established in 1947, is the world’s oldest and largest art festival as well as one of the world's most dynamic and innovative art festivals. It takes place each summer, mostly in August, gathering the top leaders and rookies in music, dance and drama from all the corners of the world.

During this trip, the Wuhan Peking Opera Troupe will give a special performance of Zhezixi (note: opera highlights) at the Chinese Culture Festival which is one of separate events organized at the Edinburgh International Festival aiming to build an exchange platform between Chinese culture and art.

The programs include the operas of Red Peach Mountain (《红桃山》), Fairy Scattering Flowers (《天女散花》), the Drunken Concubine(《贵妃醉酒》), etc. They all will be introduced in both Chinese and English to the audience.

In addition to the art festival, the Wuhan Peking Opera Troupe will paid a visit to Manchester, a sister city of Wuhan, to carry out exchanges with the local cultural circle in China’s traditional art and culture.
