Chen Lijun and her fabric art puppets

There is a kind of Chinese folk art that uses silk, satin, and other materials to make puppets for shows. Deformation and exaggeration of facial features is the most striking characteristic of modern Wuhan fabric puppets. The finished products are simple in color, lightweight, and practical.

The most popular fabric art puppets in Wuhan are those created by Chen Lijun, a retired professor from Hubei Academy of Fine Arts. Inspired by the traditional practice of designing and producing folk puppets, she uses cloth and other recycled materials to create her masterpieces.
